FAQs
What is HVAC?
HVAC is short for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. The term HVAC is most often used in reference to the entire system.
What temperature should I keep my thermostat set to?
There is no “right” temperature. But the general rule for energy efficiency savings is to keep the temperature several degrees warmer in the summer and several degrees lower in the winter when you are away from home. By doing this, your AC and heating system aren’t working as hard when no one is home.
How often should I service my HVAC system?
We recommend that everyone have their HVAC system serviced twice a year. Usually, routine maintenance is performed in the spring for your AC and in the fall for your heating system.
How often should I change my filters?
Making sure your air filter is clean is important in any home. It’s extremely easy to do. We recommend you change your air filter every 30 days for the best indoor air quality.
Is it safe to use chemical drain cleaners?
Drain cleaners are made of very toxic and hazardous chemicals. These chemicals are dangerous and corrosive, so you should always practice caution when handling these substances. Additionally, drain cleaners are very bad for your pipes, causing them to deteriorate from the inside out. If this happens, your drain lines will need to be replaced.
How can I see if there is a leak?
If you notice any small or large puddles of water near your sinks, tubs or showers, it could indicate a leak somewhere. You should immediately call a professional if you notice any warping of the wood in your walls or ceilings.
What is a sump pump?
It’s a device put in the lowest point of your home such as a crawl space or a basement. Sump pumps help to keep the area around them from flooding.
Do I need a sump pump?
You do, if your house has a basement that floods often. Also, if you live near an area that floods frequently, then you may want to consider installing one. A sump pump will help prevent your home from flooding.
Are there certain things I shouldn’t flush down my toilet?
It may seem like a silly question but really, it’s not. You should never flush foreign objects down your toilet. These include things such as:
- Baby wipes, “flushable” wipes, napkins, and paper towels
- Hygiene products and diapers
- Q tips, cotton balls or dental floss
- Small objects
These may seem like they flush down your toilet just fine, but they don’t break down properly in your plumbing system. Eventually it builds up and clogs your system, which can cause more extensive damage.
How long do heating systems last?
You can expect your heating system to last a good amount of time, depending on what type it is. Generally, a new heating system you purchase today will last you 10 to 15 years and maybe more.
Other models like electric furnaces can be expected to last a bit longer, but that greatly depends on the make and model of your system. Either way, keeping up with regular maintenance is a great way to extend the life of your heating system
Can you service my existing heating system or do I need to buy a new one?
We offer maintenance and repair services for pretty much any type of heating system. No matter how old it is or who installed is, we’ll be happy to take care of it for you.
What can I put in my garbage disposal?
Garbage disposals are not made to crush bones and other hard objects. They will only break up soft debris such as mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, eggs, cooked pasta, etc. These are fine to put in your disposal.
However, things like bones, potato peels, coffee grounds, or any tough products, you shouldn’t. They will end up jamming and clogging your disposal. Also, always run water to the disposal to help break down the foods and flush through the drain.
Feel free to call our Super Service experts for help with your disposal.
